God of War: Ghost of Sparta is set following the events of the original God Of War on PS2. The game follows Kratos, the God Of War on a journey as he looks for his long lost brother Deimos who got taken by Athena as a child. The game is brutal, bloody, and with a story mode that will take anywhere from 3-6 hours to complete, it offers a lot of game time for a handheld gaming device. Not to mention the fact that there are many different skins with different abilities that you unlock, plus the Temple of Zeus to finish. The point is, this game has a lot of content and an excellent lasting appeal. The visuals are so amazing as well that you will completely forget it is just a PSP.
The gameplay runs great as well, developers ReadyAtDawn have dodged the obstacle of a PSP's lack of a second analog stick by having a fixed camera for wherever Kratos goes. It looks great and works well with the game's fast and furious battles. The game has many boss battles where Kratos will come up against mythical creatures 3-200 times his size and have to slice, dice and stab his way to victory. Along with magical powers, a spear and shield and a massive combo list, there is an enormous variety of ways to kill things. Once Kratos has hurt the creatures enough, he can unleash a brutal finishing move that will range from stabbing his blade into a cyclops's eye, to swimming underwater and stabbing the thing as it pulls him along. Throw in some puzzles that Kratos needs to solve to advance, and you have a great game that might even make a decent movie.
God of War: Ghost of Sparta is a great looking game with some absolutely brutal fight scenes. The graphics are amazing, the gameplay runs smooth and there is not a lot wrong with the game to be honest. It is definitely the best PSP game that I have played, and at $30 it is great value for money.
